OCD Add-a-Verse

Help Compose an OCD Song

Updated 18-Apr-2005

Are you a poet and don't know it? Whether or not you are, help write a song about living with OCD. The 8-line verses have a very simple rhyming structure - lines 2 and 4 rhyme, and lines 6 and 8 - so give it a try and see if you can express something about suffering from OCD or about coping with a friend's or relation's OCD.

Many, many years ago, when I should have been paying attention to teachers and professors, I wrote about 100 new verses for John Lennon's "Cold Turkey". (For you Beatles fans, mention of "Cold Turkey" or "Yer Blues" always bring to my mind the Live Peace in Toronto 1969 versions.) "Cold Turkey" is (i) about anguish and (ii) verses are easy to write, so I chose it as the model for this OCD song. I replaced the one-line chorus - "Cold turkey ... has got me ... o-on the run" - with one that suggests the continuing cycle of obsessions and compulsions - "Will it go 'round ... and around ... i-in circles". The new chorus was shamelessly swiped from Billy Preston's "Will It Go 'Round In Circles" and occurred to me while I was listening to "Will The Cirle Be Unbroken" (Jeff Beck rendition).

... under construction ...
